Classes

From RYL Wiki

Every character has a class. A character is created in one of the base classes of its nation, and from level 10 it can change to one of the advanced classes of that base class.

Nation Base class Advanced classes
Human Fighter Defender, Warrior
Human Rogue Assassin, Archer
Human Mage Sorcerer, Enchanter
Human Acolyte Priest, Cleric
Akhan Combatant Templar, Attacker, Gunner
Akhan Officiator Rune Officiator, Life Officiator, Shadow Officiator

Each class page has the class's stats, its stats by level, its skills and the equipment it can use.

Stats

Characters have five stats: STR (strength), DEX (dexterity), CON (constitution), INT (intelligence) and WIS (wisdom). Every stat is at least 20. Each class has one or two main stats, which grow by themselves on every level-up.

The stats, with the bonuses of the equipment worn, set the combat values: Damage, Defence, Extra Attack, Extra Defence, Critical Hit Rate, Defence Rate, Magic Resistance, Magic Power and HP and MP. Stats has what each stat raises and how each value works in a fight. Max HP, max MP, Extra Attack and Extra Defence depend on the class; their formulas are on each class page. INT also raises the number of skill points (see Skills).

Levels

The highest level is 95. On reaching a new level:

  • experience starts again from 0 (experience beyond what the level needed is lost);
  • HP and MP are refilled;
  • the class's main stats grow (the gains are on each class page);
  • the character gets 2 bonus points, except the Combatant and the Officiator, whose main stat grows instead and who get none.
The custom server keeps the experience beyond what the level needed for the next level, also over several levels at once (at level 95 it is 0). On the original servers it is lost.

Bonus points

Bonus points raise a stat by one. A stat costs 1 point, or 2 points if it is one of the class's main stats. A base class pays 2 points also for the main stats of its advanced classes. Each class page lists the stats that cost 2 points.

Class change

At level 10 or higher, a base class can change to one of its advanced classes at the trainer of its class (for example a Fighter Trainer for a Fighter). The main stats are set to what the new class would have gained from its levels since level 1, and the bonus points are recalculated.

Redistributing stats

A Chaos Stone lets a character take bonus points back out of its stats and spend them again. Each use:

  • takes one Chaos Stone and Level × 10,000 gold;
  • gives back at most 4 bonus points;
  • cannot leave a stat below 20, nor a main stat below 20 plus what it gained from levels.

Skills whose stat requirements are no longer met lose steps until they are met again, and if the character has more skill steps than skill points, the last skills lose steps.

Skills

  • Class skills are known from the start, without a book. A base class's class skills are also known by its advanced classes.
  • The other skills are learned from skill books. Each book adds one step to a skill. A skill has four grades (I to IV) of six steps each, and a book works only on a skill of its own grade: a grade I book for the first six steps, grade II for the next six, and so on.
  • The k-th step of a skill (k from 1 to 24) needs each of the skill's stats at its value × k. For example, a skill that needs "STR 7" needs STR 14 for its second step. Equipment bonuses count.
  • A character can have up to Level + (INT − 20) / 10 skill steps in total, in up to 20 skills.
  • A base class learns only its own skills. An advanced class learns its own skills and those of its base class.
