Quests are offered by NPCs. A quest has a level range, may be limited to some classes or need an earlier quest, and is made of phases. Each phase has one or more steps (talk to an NPC, kill monsters, reach a place); finishing a step can take or give items, give experience and gold, show the NPC's words and move the quest to its next phase or end it.

The lists of quests are in Human quests and Akhan quests.

Finding quests

  • Green NPC names. An NPC's name is green when at least one of its quests fits your level and you have not completed it. The colour does not take your class, the earlier quest a quest needs or your quests in progress into account, so a green NPC may still have nothing you can take.
  • The NPC's quest list. When you talk to the NPC, its quests show as:
    • available (green) when you can take them;
    • greyed out when your class cannot take it or your level is below the minimum;
    • hidden when you already completed it, have it in progress, have not completed the earlier quest it needs, or your level is above the maximum.
  • When several NPCs offer the same quest, the same level range, classes and earlier quest apply at all of them: those on the quest's page.

Taking a quest

You can take a quest when:

  • your level is within its range (both ends included);
  • your class is one of its classes;
  • you do not have it in progress, and you have not completed it if it can be done only once;
  • you have fewer than 10 quests in progress.

A quest that needs an earlier one only appears after that one is completed.

You can have up to 10 quests in progress; the newest comes first in the quest window. The game remembers up to 100 completed quests per character.

Steps

Step What to do
Talk Talk to the named NPC. Its location is on the quest page.
Kill Kill the given number of a monster.
Go to a place Reach the spot, within the radius given on the quest page.
Start Nothing: it happens as soon as you accept the quest or the phase begins.

The quest window counts what is left of each step. Progress is saved with the character, so you can log out in the middle of a quest.

Kills

  • Only the exact monster of the quest counts. Some monsters share a name with others of a different type; killing those does not count. Quest pages warn when this happens.
  • A kill counts for the character who kills the monster and for the members of their party who are alive and close to the monster: in the same area of the map as the party's experience share, the block of 3 × 3 squares of 32 m around the monster.
On the original servers only the character who killed the monster got the kill. The custom server gives it to the nearby party members too, so that a party can do the same quest together.

Handing in items and gold

When a step takes items or gold, you need all of them when the step completes (usually when you talk to the NPC). Without them the step fails, the NPC says its "not yet" line and you can try again later. A piece of equipment is taken whole.

Items you receive

An item given by a quest appears at your feet and goes to a free slot of your inventory. Keep some room in the inventory when you finish a step that gives items.

Rewards

  • Experience is given as if you had earned it by fighting, and can level you up.
  • Gold goes straight to your inventory's gold.
  • Quests never change fame.

The rewards on the quest pages are the game's own values. On the custom server the experience and drop rates it runs with also multiply quest experience and gold.

Completing, repeating and cancelling

  • When the last step ends the quest, it leaves the list of quests in progress. A quest that can be done once goes to the list of completed quests and is not offered again; a repeatable quest can be taken again right away.
  • Cancelling a quest (in the quest window) removes it from the quests in progress. The items you received from it are kept and the items you handed in are not given back. You can take a cancelled quest again, and it starts over from the first phase.
